What a great way to encourage children to investigate Sound! This book is beautifully presented, uses correct terminology in contexts that aid understanding and helps enthuse readers about Science. This book would be great to have at home and in schools, too. As a teacher I could easily use this to introduce and encourage pupils to investigations about Sound. I have no hesitation in highly recommending it! 5 out of 5 stars

This 32-page primary science book in the iScience Readers series explains the causes of sound, reasons for high and low sounds, reasons for loud and soft sounds, and how sounds travel. Concepts are presented in a problem-based learning format, which promotes critical thinking and includes hands-on activities.
Readers are presented with a challenge: "You and your friends have a concert to perform, but you don’t have any instruments. What can you do?" The premise is carried throughout the book, and solutions are modeled.
Sound: Music to Our Ears will hold children’s attention as they learn basic concepts about sound. It includes an iScience Puzzle with an explanation of how to solve the puzzle, a discover activity, a section on "science at work," connections to history, a glossary, sources for further reading, and additional notes. The illustrations are clear photographs.
This is a high-quality, durable book with a library binding—perfect for the classroom. If you are teaching sound, this is one book you should purchase. Upper-grade teachers with special education students, as well as teachers using differentiated instruction, will also find this book to be very useful.

Wonderful book describing sound - how it's made, different kinds of sound, how it travels, etc. Pictures are great and the book is quite engaging. I would say 1st - 5th grades will enjoy it. Highly recommend.

This is a great series for beginning science introduction and study. Books are easy to manage both in size and amount of pages. Each book has a colorful cover wtih a round colorful picture of the subject. Inside it is packed with information with great photographs. Text is 2-3 paragraphs per page. There are additional features highlighting the topic and sub-topic headings. I like the science puzzle at the beginning - almost an ice breaker into the topic. The discovery activity is a great hands on example of the topic. Very nice series for the younger elementary.
