Translated to Spanish from English, the titles in this series feature bright pictures, colorful timelines, and other graphics. Students will love the sections offering tips on playing tactics exhibited by showcased professional players. Native Spanish speakers will be able to enjoy the language used. The more difficult verb structures and data-centered information make the books more appropriate for high school Spanish-language students. Schools with a strong Latino population or with an established collection of titles in Spanish will want to add these to their shelves. Glossary. Index.

CHILDREN'S BOOKWATCH, April 2007

This Spanish addition to the “Team Spirit” series celebrates the Chicago White Sox baseball team, its history, its accomplishments and its key players. It focuses first on what makes the team players different from others, namely that they are not interested in being glamorous, they play hard, and they count their long history and fan support as part of their success. Following the series’ format, the book devotes a section to White Sox’s past, highlighting the team’s participation in the American League, style of play and best players at the beginning of the twentieth century. The chapter devoted to today’s team focuses on the team’s success in the 2005 World Series, noting that the White Sox also won it in 1906 and 1917. The most interesting chapter for baseball aficionados may be, “Ganamos” (We Won), which analyzes the common strategies and strengths for the victories which resulted in the 1906, 1917 and 2005 World Series titles. Another chapter highlights pioneer players and today’s team stars. There are stories here to entertain and inform every baseball fan, from those about distinguished White Sox managers and leaders such as Ozzie Guillén to the development of the team uniform and interesting facts and legends about the team. This book also includes famous baseball quotes, players’ records, a team timeline, an explanation of the game, a glossary of baseball terms, a map, and a list of websites to visit.
