The simple sentence structure allows young readers to learn science concepts without struggling to decode complex language. A Word List is also provided In the end pages as a resource tool. Students and teachers alike will enjoy the beautiful full-color photographs that depict each ecosystem and its inhabitants. The zoomed-in effect used on several of the photos provides great detail of the hlghlighted areas. A few "Did You Know" information boxes are spaced throughout the book to add a little trivia fun. Description labels are a!so Included on each photo. Future editions of this work might consider enlarging the text for better viewing by tittle eyes. Overall, this book provides basic information for young students and would be a great addition to any early reader nonfiction collection. Garland Independent School District user, June 2018

This volume in the petite Read and Discover: Science series gives early readers a glimpse into forest, grassland, desert, tundra, fresh water, and marine ecosystems. Two double-page spreads are dedicated to each, which prominently display a large color photo of the ecosystem being discussed and zoom in on its plants and animals. Simple text that very generally describes the landscape, climate, and wildlife of each ecosystem appears in a corner of each spread; variations are noted when appropriate, such as the existence of hot and cold deserts. At the book’s end, readers are given a quick pictorial review and asked to identify ecosystems near their homes. Teachers and caregivers can take advantage of the appended “Connecting Concepts” section to reinforce the book’s science concepts and build children’s language skills and
fluency. Booklist, October 2017

Ecosystems by Mary Lindeen is an informative, non-fiction book in the Physical Science Series. The book provides an interesting way that is easy for children to understand about some of the ecosystems in the world. Some of the things explained include location, climate and what might be living there. This is an early reader book so will also help to reinforce reading skills and build confidence. At the back of the book it lists the high frequency words as well as content words that can be pre-taught or discussed if the book is being read aloud. There are facts given during the reading accompanied by wonderful photos and many labels. The section at the back for parents and teachers gives suggested activities for connecting concept as well as resources for further investigation. I recommend this book for young readers and for parents and teachers to read to children. 5/5 stars NetGalley, November 2017

As part of the Beginning-to-Read, Read and Discover Science series, Ecosystems by Mary Lindeen offers a succinct, well organized introduction to the concept of ecosystems for our younger students. Enrichment activity suggestions are included, along with a listing of high-frequency words and content words. 5/5 stars NetGalley, November 2017

Like Color and Shape, Ecosystems uses bold colors and easy sentences to encourage little learning minds. But unlike Color and Shape, Ecosystems includes animals and geography, which I geek out over. Well, my daughter does too. So it was a giant geek out fest together.  Once again, at the end it included a work page to go over the concepts introduced and a list of words included in the book. It's great and I'm a big fan. 4/5 stars NetGalley, October 2017

This book would be a lovely addition to a school library. The gorgeous photos and well thought out text will ensure younger readers and ELL students understand the concept of ecosystems. 4/5 stars NetGalley, October 2017
