Baby bunny relies on its mother during its early stage in life. The mother cares for and feeds her young baby. Soon, baby bunny grows and ventures out into the world to explore its surroundings. Young baby bunny is able to do a few things on its own. It can feed and clean itself, yet, innocent baby bunny discovers that it still needs the guidance of its watchful, caring mother. Although the text utilizes high frequency words, the pictures take the story a little further in meaning. The soft and gentle hues of the watercolor illustrations work with and extend the theme of the story. The pictures reveal further information about the story’s plot; these inferences may need to be supported when talking about the story and its theme. This book, from the “Beginning-to-Read Book” series, is a revised edition that includes reading activities, phonemic awareness, phonics, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Caregivers will find a note included at the beginning of the book; this message provides some helpful guidance on working with beginning readers.

Children's Literature

Hillert's easy readers are great books for young students to practice reading. Each page has very few words for the student to sound out. Though the plot lacks excitement, the cute animal pictures will entertain a young reader. Recommended.
