The Decodables series incorporates the research and findings of the science of reading. The term “science of reading” refers to the research that reading experts, especially cognitive scientists, have conducted on how we learn to read.
Each book follows an expertly crafted scope and sequence incorporating fundamental spelling patterns such as consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC), vowel-consonant-e (VC-e), digraphs, consonant blends, and vowel patterns. Additionally, titles are broken down into 6 unique sets specific to grade levels and spelling patterns, enhancing language comprehension and word recognition. Titles include a combination of illustrations, photos, or both in fiction and non-fiction.
A corresponding Teacher Guide is available for each title to help reinforce decodable text concepts and patterns in the classroom and at home.
Sets are broken down as follows:
- Search for Sounds (Set 1) – Features our first wordless books and provides an introduction to letter sounds for kindergarteners.
- Friends and Family Fun (Set 2) – Focuses on consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC) patterns and is written for grades K-1.
