Decodables

The Decodables series incorporates the research and findings of the science of reading.  The term “science of reading” refers to the research that reading experts, especially cognitive scientists, have conducted on how we learn to read.

Each book follows an expertly crafted scope and sequence incorporating fundamental spelling patterns such as consonant-vowel-consonant (CVC), vowel-consonant-e (VC-e), digraphs, consonant blends, and vowel patterns. Additionally, titles are broken down into 6 unique sets specific to grade levels and spelling patterns, enhancing language comprehension and word recognition. Titles include a combination of illustrations, photos, or both in fiction and non-fiction.

A corresponding Teacher Guide is available for each title to help reinforce decodable text concepts and patterns in the classroom and at home.

Sets are broken down as follows:

All titles are available in hardcover, paperback, and eBook formats

Each sound’s related letter is also on the page in a clear lowercase font.

Cumulative read-aloud texts, found in the back of the book, linked to the pictures are read by the teacher and present social studies and science concepts of interest to young children.

Some of the books include recurring characters exploring the topics while others are more typical nonfiction.

Interest will be generated as your students work to isolate, identify, and link the sounds to words.
