Chronicles the history and accomplishments of the Texas Longhorns, introduces key players and personalities with the team, and includes photographs, statistics, fun facts, and a timeline.  After suffering through a dismal 2010 season, Longhorn fans will enjoy this new book reminding them of the excellence, consistency, and winning tradition of the Texas Longhorns.  An entertaining and engaging read for any college football fan.  Hook 'em Horns!
Garland Independent School District, June 2011

Grade Level: 3-6.  The books in this series provide extensive histories, including additional information on teams' arenas, uniforms, mascots, their rivals, major players, and important championships.  There is a timeline, a page of "fun facts," and a list of other teams in the conferences.  There is a two page spread of general information on "the college game" which identifies how college football differs from the NFL.  Two glossaries are included; one for basketball terms and one for general words.  In the index, the numerous color and black and white photographs are identified with bold entries.  The "Places to Go" section not only lists print and web resources for further reading, but also suggests actual places to visit (with addresses and phone numbers).  The books in this series may not be as popular with students as books about NFL teams, and would be most appreciated by fans from the home states of the teams being profiled.  James Ames, Media Specialist, Bishop Spaugh Community Academy.
Book Buzz, August 2010

These books present superficial overviews of three long-standing college football programs. Each book describes the program's storied history, coaches, players, big-game highlights, and fan traditions. General differences between college and professional rules are also included. An engaging mix of color and archival photographs in addition to other memorabilia enhance each volume. Reading list, timeline, websites. Glos., ind. [Review covers these Team Spirit: College Football titles: The Alabama Crimson Tide, The Georgia Bulldogs, and The Texas Longhorns.]
Horn Book, Fall 2010

College football has perhaps the most rabid fan base in all of sports, and the books in the Team Spirit: College Football series will help bolster young readers’ burgeoning devotion. Each title offers a short history of the team and a look at where they are in the twenty-first century; a trip to their home field and info on uniforms; short descriptions of championship seasons; and several pages packed with profiles of individual players and their achievements. Notable coaches, rivalries, and an in-depth look at a signature win are also included. The team-first mentality is most evident in The Alabama Crimson Tide, which notes that the team has won an impressive 12 national championships without a single Heisman Trophy winner (alas, the count is now 13 championships and one Heisman winner after the 2009 season). Another SEC team gets profiled in The Georgia Bulldogs, whose most beloved symbol is the white bulldog named Uga (all six of the late Ugas are buried in the mausoleum in Sanford Stadium). Not so lucky was the first mascot of The Texas Longhorns, who was eaten by the team in a banquet in 1920. A handful of such quirky facts and plenty of crisp photos add flavor to the books, which offer a solid look at where each school has been and are just the thing for young fans heavily invested in where they’re going.
