This is a multi-topic series intended to highlight environmental problems and solutions. The issues are presented from a historical, local, global, and scientific perspective. The books use photographs, images, and different font styles to keep readers engaged. Books are co-authored by scientists who are experts in the topics presented. The sections “What Can I Do?,” “Trailblazers,” and “Expert Opinions,” highlight individual action and ideas. Glossary. Websites. Index. Recommended.

Recommended
Part of the Second Nature series.  Layout and illustrations were good.  The information was well organized.  It covered a large amount of topics with enough information to encourage deeper investigation by those with interest in the topic.  It talks about an organism being able to adapt to the environment in several instances; it does not promote evolution of man as the only theory.  I liked the expert opinions chapter.  That is something not usually found in elementary books.  There was a very short chapter on career opportunities and a suggestion on "What can I do?".

Informative, contemporary examples (flooding in New Orleans, Japanese tsunami) make the topic interesting and relevant to young readers.  Full color photographs enhance the text.  Layout is a bit text-heavy and use of color (each page is a different color) can be distracting.
